What to do in Rome, Italy
- Colosseum
The Colosseum is a must-see if you are ever in Rome. This attraction is visible from the roadside. Should you be interested in a guided tour of the inside, there is a fee to be paid you will not regret your decision. There are multiple guided tours by several service providers. You can make your pick depending on what is suitable for you. It is an experience to remember.

- Vatican City
Vatican City is a historical sight I would recommend. The atmosphere when you get to Vatican City is phenomenal. The art is captivating and awe-inspiring. The designs on the physical structure. The artwork on the walls, ceiling and floors is something to behold. If you are a patriot of the arts, the Vatican is for you.
The Vatican is enormous with a lot of walking and climbing. If capable, you can do the tour in a day. Alternatively, you can spread it over a couple of days.
- St Peter’s Basilica and St Peter’s Square
You have to climb up the bell tower to get to the top and have a look at the view of the Square. The view from the top is something to behold.
- Vatican City Museum and Sistine Chapel
The Sistine Chapel is a piece of art. The remarkable ceiling painted by Michaelangelo as well as The Last Judgement found in the chapel. The guided tours provide more on the history behind the walls and an opportunity to ask questions. The museum will give you the pleasure of having a look at some beautiful artwork
- Trevi Fountaine

According to legend, a sip of water and a toss of the coin ensures a safe return to Rome. I am not sure about the validity of this; I will leave this to your discretion. I did throw in a coin to honour the spirit of the place. Regardless of whether you believe this or not, this place is stunning!
- Roman Forum
If you are a history fanatic, you have to see this. I did a guided tour as my history was not up to par but hearing the history of the place was great. This excavation site is a view of the ancient city and a view of what was. The tour guides are great and very explanatory.
- Spanish Steps
A lot of places seem to require one to climb steps to the top. Despite the exercise, the journey is worth it because the view from the top is spectacular. A closer look at the architectural design of the building is not something to look down on.
- Castel Sant’Angelo
You can cross over a stunning bring either entering or exiting this museum- depending on your point of entry. This place is a fortress! There are a lot of ancient monuments like this in Rome.
- Villa Borghese, the gallery and museum
The gardens are stunning. It would be worth taking a stroll in the garden while having a gelato. Take a seat on the bench and absorb all the beauty around you.

- Piazzo Navona – free
This is one of square found in Rome with a fountain. Toss a coin as you admire it. Another beautiful place that you can visit to admire some stunning structures.
- Capitoline Hill and Museum
Another set of steps to walk up to get the top. When you get to the top, turn around and have a look behind you before going on. The are some ruins found on this site and a museum for a history lesson. It is also next to Forum.
- The Pantheon
The Pantheon is another church in Rome and used to be a Roman temple. The design is unique as it has an opening at the top of the structure.
- Piazza Del Popolo
This is a beautiful urban square in Rome, it has two fountains.

- Food
When in Rome, do as the Romans and eat their food. You have to try the cuisine.
Our instinct is to gravitate to the familiar, but do not! Ask the waiters to recommend authentic Italian cuisine and get a taste of the culture. It will change your life!
